Silence. White. My black eyes stared around me, my hands tracing down the legs of my pants. Not just white, I discovered, bleach white: blinding white. The sort of color you could find in a hospital wing; the one where they left patients to die.
But white was all I could find. Around me, there was nothing. My breath was shallow as ever. Smoking turned out to be a very bad habit. Although, I might have been breathing so heavily because I was nowhere. If I were a poet, I'd probably have said "everywhere" too. But a poet I was not... or at least, I had been until recently.
